Light Higgs Searches at the Lhc Using Jet Substructure
نویسنده
چکیده
One of the major goals of the LHC is to discover the Higgs boson, which is the only particle of the Standard Model (SM) that has not been seen yet at colliders. Even if we cannot predict its mass, SM precision electroweak fits seem to favour a low-mass Higgs,2 and LEP data excluded a mass below 114 GeV.3 That’s why we are going to focus on the search for a light Higgs boson at the LHC, assuming its mass is between 115 GeV and 130 GeV. Such a search is very difficult because the dominant decay channel into a bb̄ pair is swamped by backgrounds. To overcome this issue, experiments usually rely on a combination of several search channels including Higgs decay into γγ, ZZ∗, and ττ. Unfortunately, to be efficient discovery channels, they need a large integrated luminosity.4,5 Therefore, maybe would it be interesting to examine Higgs boson production in association with a W or a Z, where the vector boson decays leptonically, and H decays into bb̄? These channels may improve our ability to see a low-mass Higgs boson and they offer an opportunity to measure Higgs couplings with vector bosons and bb̄.

New Physics Undercover at the LHC
With the completion of 7 TeV and 8 TeV data taking at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the physics community witnessed one of the great triumphs of modern physics: the completion of the Standard Model (SM) as an effective theory. The final missing particle, the Higgs boson, was observed and its mass was measured. However, many theoretical questions remain unanswered. What is the source of elect...
متن کاملJet substructure as a new Higgs search channel at the LHC
A key aim of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is to discover the Higgs boson, or to prove its non-existence, and hence elucidate the mechanism of mass generation and electroweak symmetry breaking. Current electroweak fits, together with the LEP exclusion limit, favour a light Higgs boson, i.e. one around 120 GeV in mass [1]. This mass region is particularly challenging for the LHC experiments, a...
متن کاملUnderstanding jet scaling and jet vetos in Higgs searches.
Jet counting and jet vetos are crucial analysis tools for many LHC searches. We can understand their properties from the distribution of the exclusive number of jets. LHC processes tend to show either a distinct staircase scaling or a Poisson scaling, depending on kinematic cuts. We illustrate our approach in a detailed study of jets in weak boson fusion Higgs production.

Being able to distinguish light-quark jets from gluon jets on an event-by-event basis could significantly enhance the reach for many new physics searches at the Large Hadron Collider. Through an exhaustive search of existing and novel jet substructure observables, we find that a multivariate approach can filter out over 95% of the gluon jets while keeping more than half of the light-quark jets....
متن کاملLight Higgses and Dark Matter at Bottom and Charm Factories
Neither Dark Matter nor scalar particles in the Higgs sector are ruled out at energies accessible to bottom and charm factories. In Dark Matter searches, the error on the mass of Dark Matter is ∼ 4 GeV in the best LHC studies. For light Dark Matter this could represent a 100% (or more) error. In Higgs searches, the presence of a light singlet Higgs can make the LHC Higgs search difficult, if no...
